1 Corinthians 13:13 says “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”
Fasting is a way of humbling ourselves before God. It declares to the heavenly realm we are willing to do anything to seek God’s will.
When we want to press deeper with our prayer time into God’s power, and our daily devotion time to draw near to God.
Perseverance is one of the toughest spiritual disciplines. To gain it you need something to persevere through, just as patience.
Rest is a discipline. It’s choosing to spend time doing the things which are truly the most important in life. It’s choosing to draw near to God.
Prayer is one of the most powerful weapons God has given us. Prayer and the word of God go hand in hand, as prayer applies the Word into our lives.
Throughout the Bible, we are told “As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one” (Romans 3:10). But we are called to righteousness!
Philippians 4:7 talks about the peace of God that surpasses all understanding. There is no doubt that God wants to provide us with a Holy Spirit gift of peace in our lives.
One of the most important spiritual disciplines in our walk with Christ is that of Repentance. It is through repentance we bring to God our sin, our mistakes, and our brokenness.
Serving God happens when we’re at work, doing all to His glory (Colossians 3:23-24). It happens at home, when we are caring for our family, or when we are visiting friends.
Tithing is an incredibly important spiritual discipline. At its core, tithing relates to our mission here on earth.
Do we read in the Bible about how God wants us to do any one of these spiritual disciplines, and keep living our life no difference? It’s about doing what God places in front of us, asking us to do.
To develop patience, it is closely linked to self-control.
Patience is tough! You must wait for whatever you’ve asked God for.
The fruits of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23 include a fruit that is needed more than ever in today’s world, Gentleness. This fruit of the Spirit is not just a result of walking with God, but it is also a discipline.
This isn't a book about being great at a specific set of spiritual disciplines. Rather, our heart is that you would walk a journey that includes spiritual disciplines that work best for you. The reality is there exists many churches who have long taught a specific set of disciplines done in a particular way. It's unfortunate that some churches (not yours of course, other churches) have shamed followers of Jesus who don't meet the standard of the pastor, without regard that for many many people these are disciplines that don't work for them.
No person will gain value from spiritual disciplines simply from being great at them! Instead, they gain value from earnestly engaging with God in ways that best suit how He's created you to be.
